AND NOW…TO THE HOTSEAT!
R: Hello, Dale and welcome to my lair…ah, hotseat.
D: Thanks for having me, Rocco.
R: Since I love twitter,(tweet me @RoccoBlogger) I think it would be fun to see how you would describe your latest book Twitter-style. How would you describe it in 140 characters or less?
D: As a detective hunts for a killer, being psychically connected to the victims is not a good place to be. Bodies stack up - who will survive?
R: When did you know you wanted to become a writer or have you always known?
D: I always thought I’d be a writer ‘someday’ but it wasn’t until I’d been writing full-time for several years that I considered myself a writer.
R: What was the hardest part of the writing process?
D: Learning all the bits of craft, something I’m still working on. I rarely have problems pulling together plots, characters, or themes.
R: What inspired the concept for Vampire in Denial?
D: My daughter! Tessa, my protagonist, is similar in that she’s tall, slim, gawky and feels like she doesn’t fit into her vampire or human worlds.
R: Can you tell us a little bit about your writing environment and/or and rituals you go through before sitting down to write?
D: I’m the most blasé of writers. I don’t have a process, ritual or need a sacred space. I prefer to have my desk cleaned up and my plate somewhat cleaned off to prepare for the new project, but other than that, I only need a blank page.
R: What is your favorite Book or Series?
D: If we’re not talking about my own books, I love JDRobb’s Death series. I own them all
R: If you could be a character from one of your favorite books, who would you be?
D: Dallas from JD Robb’s Death series, because then I’d have Roarke for myself :PR: I think you would have to fight the human on that one, heh heh. She is a Dallas/Roarke fan too.
R: Do you listen to music while you write, if so what’s on your playlist?
D: No, I don’t - but I do watch a lot of action movies while I write – any and all kinds!
R: If there was one thought or feeling you would want readers to take away from reading your books, what would it be?
D: Satisfaction!
R: You write both adult and YA. Which do you prefer and why?
D: I don’t have a preference. They both satisfy different needs. My RS are twisted and full of suspense and red herrings whereas my YAs, well, they are pure fun! Both to read and to write.
R: and now, a little thing i like to call:
JUST FOR FUN!
JUST FOR FUN!
R: Shaken or stirred –
D: I wish I could say stirred, but as a single mom of four, my world is more likely to be shaken.

R: Mountains or beach –
D: beach in summer and mountains for skiing!

R: Cat or dog? –
D: Cat! And preferably more than one! (R: (APPAWS)EXCELLENT answer, BTW! Four Paws!)

R:Vampire or Shapeshifter –
D:Shapeshifter – hands down!

R: Your Favorite:
D:
Drink – coffee, preferably a latte!

Movie – Transformers
TV Show – Criminal minds
Novel – Way too many to choose from!

D: I write and produce books in all genres, adult and YA, and nonfiction.

Great interview! Dale, too funny about you watching action movies as you write. I think we get used to anything.
ReplyDeleteHi Edie,
ReplyDeleteI think action movies makes sense in my case - it's either those or watching the action between my kids - at least with the movie I get a happy ending!
