What better way to salute the month of October and Halloween than with a salute to one of the greatest camp movies of all time...HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS!
Filmed at the height of the cult soap's popularity, the movie kept the basic premise of DS with one very important difference (well, two actually) in the movie, Barnabas was evil (as he was originally meant to be on the soap, but Jonathan Frid's popularity dictated he use his powers for good) and the character of Victoria Winters was scrapped (becasue Alexandra Moltke had already left the show) instead Maggie Evans became the belaguered governess!
We had practically every main character turned into a vampire, and the ones who survived needed psychiatric help :) Still in all, the movie was a huge hit and spawned a sequel, NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS (featuring all the characters not featured in HOUSE)
Myself, I shall be interested to see Johnny Depp's remake next May - particularly what he does with the role of Barnabas (not to mention the fabulous Michelle Pfeiffer in the classic role of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard!)
MEOW!
Dont forget, tomorrow we kick off our salute to EVERY WITCH WAY BUT WICKED - THE Halloween anthology whose sales benefit Nathan Fillion's charity, KIDS NEED TO READ!
THERE WILL BE A CONTEST!
YOU DONT WANT TO MISS A MINUTE OF OCTOBER!
