And now…to the HOTSEAT!  (heh heh)

R: Hello, Misty and welcome to my “hotseat” heh heh.  To begin, why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself and your books?
M: Hi Rocco! Thanks for having me for a visit today. I’m one of the authors with a story in Every Witch Way But Wicked, and my story features Keisha from my Witches Anonymous series. I also write romantic suspense, culinary mysteries and urban fantasy.

R: Sounds very cool!  In your own opinion what do you think makes your novel different and engaging to readers?
M: My voice. Every author has a certain *voice* that makes their stories unique and engaging. Since I write across genres, I have several voices…and hopefully, readers enjoy all of them!

R: What about the writing industry do you find most challenging?
M: I have very definite visions for all of my books. Sometimes it’s a challenge to find the right editor and publisher who can see what I see. Indie publishing allows me more freedom but has its own set of challenges, but I’ve been lucky to find an editor and cover artists who help me bring my vision to life for each of my books.

R: You also write spy novels.  Which do you prefer, spy novels or paranormal?
M: I love both! I’m fascinated with the CIA, terrorists and spies and I do a lot of research for each of those books, delving into that world for months at a time. When I come up for air, it’s nice to switch to something lighter and less research intensive, like my paranormals.

R: What do you do when you are not writing?
M: When I’m not writing, I enjoy spending time with my husband, twin sons and my big dog, Max. Travel, reading, baking are all hobbies and I’m a huge baseball fan.

R: What’s a must have for you when you are writing?
M: A thesaurus and good friends who are willing to brainstorm with me whenever the muse strikes.

R: Do you have any particular rituals you follow when you write?
M: I used to. When I started out writing, I had to put on my lucky sweatshirt before I could type a word. The poor thing got so holey and worn out, I eventually gave it up, but I still have a few rituals. On a perfect writing day, I light a candle, put on some music and settle in with my latest set of characters. I write for a few hours in the morning, then tackle promo and other things that come up before the kids get home from school.

R: Do you listen to music when you write? If so, who’s on your playlist?
M: I listen to music all the time. There are times when I listen to it before I begin a particular scene to get me in the mood. Other times, to celebrate writing a good scene! I have a playlist for every book and the songs range from Celtic Woman to Creed, so it depends on the story and my mood.

R: What books are you reading now?
M: I’m reading Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampire Series and Adrienne Giordano’s Private Protector Series.

Just for fun:
Favorite:
R:TV show
M: I have several: Burn Notice, Supernatural, Pretty Little Liars, Leverage…I can’t pick just one!

R:Actress
M: Anne Hathaway
R:Author

M: Can’t I have both?
R: Vampire or Warlock?
M: Warlock
R: Chuck or Man from UNCLE?
M: Neither. Michael Weston (Burn Notice)
R: Cats or Dogs?
M: Definitely both!  (heh, heh, another politically correct answer!)

R:What is one thing your readers would be most surprised to know about you?
M: Readers ask me all the time if I’m a CIA agent. In my dreams! J

R:What is the craziest thing you've ever done?
M: That I can talk about in public? Okay, let’s see. One of the craziest things I’ve ever done is have seven cats, two dogs and twins at the same time!

R: What can we expect from you in the future? What are you working on now?
M: I’m editing the first Kali Sweet book in my new urban fantasy series. That book will be out before the end of the year. Next year, I’m publishing the next Super Agent book and two more Witches Anonymous stories.

R: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to our readers?
M: Let’s hang out on Twitter or Facebook and swap pet stories and recipes!

MEOW! Thanks for a great interview, Misty. Okay, people, time to run out and pick up EVERY WITCH WAY BUT WICKED to check out Misty’s story, and while you’re at it, try one of her other novels as well! (or two – or three!)

And don’t’ forget – pay attention! There will be a quiz after all the interviews…three lucky people will win a copy of EVERY WITCH WAY BUT WICKED!

Coming up…DALE MAYER!

  1. Misty, what a fun interview. I learned new things about you. 7 cats! Ack!!! And then twins. You don't do anything halfway, do you? LOL

I loved your Kali Sweet story in the Entangled anthology, and will be one of the first to buy your book.

  2. Rocco, thanks again for having me today. It's been fun hanging out with you and your human!
Edie, you're right, I rarely do things halfway. Which usually gets me into trouble. Good fodder for my characters though! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
