Rose Pressey is a USA TODAY bestselling author. She enjoys writing quirky and fun novels with a paranormal twist. The paranormal has always captured her interest. The thought of finding answers to the unexplained fascinates her.
When she's not writing about werewolves, vampires and every other supernatural creature, she loves eating cupcakes with sprinkles, reading, spending time with family, and listening to oldies from the fifties.
Rose lives in the beautiful commonwealth of Kentucky with her husband, son and three sassy Chihuahuas.
R: Welcome, Rose! Tell us a bit about yourself
and how you became interested in writing.
Thanks,ROCCO! I’ve always loved
reading. Eventually I realized that I should write out all the stories that
were in my head. I write humorous mystery with romance and a bit of paranormal.
R:
You are so prolific! How long does it
usually take you to write a book, from first idea to finish?
I write
the first draft in about thirty days. As long as I stick to a schedule then I
can make that deadline.
R: Tell us about your latest release!
My latest
release is Dead Girl’s Guide to Style. It’s about a down-to-earth vampire who
finds herself in the middle of a mystery involving all vampires of her
hometown.
R:
Out of all the series you’ve done (and there are quite a few) which is your
favorite? Were any easier to write than others?
That is
a tough question since I love them all. I’ll always have a special place for
Larue Donavan because it was my first. I
am excited about my new series from Kensington Publishing that will be out this
winter. IF YOU’VE GOT IT, HAUNT IT is the first book in the Haunted Vintage
Series. Rocco, you will be happy to know that there’s a beautiful white cat in
the series. I don’t think any of the series have been harder than the others. I
just let the characters take control.
R:
What writers in your genre would you say have made the greatest influence on
your writing?
There are so
many great authors that I don’t know where to even start. I enjoy Mary Kay
Andrews, Janet Evanovich, Molly Harper, Dakota Cassidy and so many others.
R:
Do you have an “how I got my agent” story you’d like to share? How did you feel when you got the call your
first novel had sold?
I had been envisioning
the day for six years. When I got the call about my first novel being sold I
cried tears of joy. It was kind of surreal. I’d sent out hundreds of queries
and even signed with an agent four years ago. She was unable to sell my book,
so I started over again. It took another two years before I found another
agent. A year later she sold my first book. A few months after that I was
approached by Thomas and Mercer about acquiring my Maggie Thomas, P.I. series.
R: What’s a must have for you when you
are writing? What aids the creative process? Chocolate is always nice. I eat
that only occasionally though to avoid expanding my waistline. Diet soda gets
me through nicely too.
The 1950s because I love the music, clothes, and cars.
R: If a movie were to be made of
one of your books, which one would you want it to be and who would you pick for
the lead roles?
I think the Mystic Café series would be fun as a movie with
magic and food. I’d pick Timothy Olyphant as Tom. I’m not sure about the other
characters. I would make a terrible casting director.
R: What is one thing your readers
would be most surprised to know about you?
When I was fourteen I won the talent portion of a
beauty pageant.
Not much. Ha-ha. I let my characters do all the crazy stuff. I
rode the Greyhound bus across country. That was kind of crazy.
R: What do you hope readers will most
take away from your writing?
I hope they laugh and just get a few hours of fun
and escape from their hectic day.
R: What are you
working on at the moment / next?
I’m working on Lost on the Bayou and Honeysuckle Homicide. One is a
romantic suspense and the other is a cozy mystery.
R: Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I used to be a
pantser, but now with such a tight writing schedule I have to plot.
R: What do you do
when you’re not writing? Any hobbies or party tricks? :)
I enjoy reading of course. My
husband and I just bought a home that was built in 1851, so the
renovation/restoration is taking up all of my free time. I also love home décor
and anything historic or haunted.
R: Where can we find out more about you and your work?
Visit www.rosepressey.com or find me on Facebook
and Twitter. www.facebook.com/rosepressey
and www.twitter.com/rosepressey
R: Do you have any advice
for beginning writers?
Write! Having a critique
partner is good. That person can help push you to make your writing its best.
R:
If you weren’t a writer, what would you be doing?
I love home décor, so maybe design. Definitely
something creative.
