Salute to Spookfest continues...Psycho!

Meow!

My salute to horror movies continues with a homage to Alfred Hitchcock and one of the greatest horror movies of all time...yes, I'm talking about the original PSYCHO, not the crappy remake. the original, with Janet Leigh and Vera Miles and the guy who looked like he was ready to blow at any minute...the late great Anthony Perkins.

If you've been living in a cocoon and aren't familiar with this classic, here's a synopsis (courtesy of the good fans over at IMDB)

Marion Crane is a Phoenix, Arizona working girl fed up with having to sneak away during lunch breaks to meet her lover, Sam Loomis, who cannot get married because most of his money goes towards alimony. In a spur of the moment decision, Marion Crane decides to leave Phoenix with the $40,000 her boss entrusted to her to deposit at the bank. She's headed to her boyfriend Sam in Fairvale, California and the money will finally let them start their life together. After having spent a night in her car, she can't quite make all the way and spends her second night at the Bates Motel. There she meets Norman Bates, a shy and withdrawn young man who seems to be dominated by his mother. They chat for a while and as a result she decides to go back to Pheonix and return the money. She's still going to spend the night at the motel and decides to have a shower before going to bed. A week later Marion's sister arrives at Sam's store in Fairvale to tell him Marion has disappeared. Together with a private detective, Milton Arbogast, they begin searching the area and eventually come across the Bates Motel. And then all HELL breaks loose...from a young man who, proverbially, "wouldn't hurt a fly"...

the movie starred Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, Vera Miles as her sister Lila and John Gavin as Sam, Marion's married lover. Several sequels followed years later as well as a remake but nothing can hold a candle to the original movie...or that shower sequence.

Fun Fact:

Janet Leigh refused to take showers after filming this movie - she would only take baths.

Tomorrow! Our salute to Halloween continues with an interview with Denise Gary from KIDS NEED TO READ, followed by interviews with the authors of this great anthology!

Keep watching - you don't want to miss a minute of October!
